Girls Inc. of Chattanooga Now Accepting Nominations for 2012 UnBought & UnBossed Awards

Posted by girlsincofchatt on November 15, 2011

Girls Inc. of Chattanooga is now accepting nominations for the 8th annual UnBought & UnBossed Awards.  The award is named for the phrase coined by groundbreaking Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm.

UnBought and UnBossed recognizes Hamilton County women who through their career achievements or community leadership have had a significant impact in improving the lives of girls and women. Nominees must be women who have demonstrated that they are “determined, intelligent and audacious in (their) beliefs,” as Shirley Chisholm was once described.

Previous honorees have included such well-known community members as BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee CEO, Vicky Gregg, former Chattanooga Times Chairwoman, Ruth Holmberg and retired educator and centenarian, Mabel Scruggs.

The nomination process is open to the public. The final ten honorees are chosen by ten high school girls participating in Girls Inc.’s Women’s History Project- each girl selecting one woman that inspires her. The girls interview their chosen honorees and recognize them at the UnBought and UnBossed Awards Breakfast with an award and a special presentation.  The 2012 breakfast will be Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at The Chattanoogan.

Nomination forms, guidelines and a list of past honorees are available here.  The deadline to submit nominations is December 31, 2011.
